HCMC – During a meeting with the National Steering Committee for Covid-19 Prevention and Control today, September 11, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc asked the Ministry of Transport to speak to the airlines about re-opening some commercial international flights, especially connecting flights to Vietnam through Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Laos and Cambodia.

The Ministry of Transport was also urged to work with the Ministries of Health, National Defense, Public Security and Foreign Affairs over issues involving the reopening of flights, such as prioritized passengers, airports receiving the flights, and Covid-19 testing and quarantine among others, according to Vietnam Plus news site.

In addition, the Ministry of Transport would also work with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to increase operational international flights between Vietnam and countries that are not centers of the Covid-19 pandemic to bring Vietnamese people home as well as investors and businesspeople.

Local governments in cooperation with the ministries of Transport and Finance should work on collecting quarantine fees.

Hanoi, HCMC, Can Tho and their neighboring localities have been asked to select hotels and places that can serve as quarantine centers by charging a fee.

The PM asked the ministries of National Defense and Public Security to prevent illegal immigration.

At the meeting, he also discussed socio-economic matters.

Accordingly, the remaining three months of the year are very important for Vietnam to reach the targeted economic growth of 3%.

To achieve this, the ministries and relevant agencies must create the best conditions for people and enterprises to do business and encourage manufacturing, trading as well as imports and exports.

The Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Welfare, Ministry of Finance and Ministry of Planning and Investment should together propose financial relief packages to further support workers who lost their jobs during Covid-19.

In related news, no coronavirus cases in the community have been found on the 10th consecutive day, paving the way for the opening of many socio-economic activities. However, the Prime Minister warned that an infected case can be found in the community at any time.
