HCMC – Vietnam’s two largest airports handled around 219,000 passengers on the final day of the five-day holiday of Reunification Day (April 30) and International Labor Day (May 1), marking a sharp rise compared to regular days and the same period last year.

Noi Bai International Airport served 108,379 passengers on May 4, with 64,254 traveling on domestic routes and 44,125 on international ones, the Vietnam News Agency reported.

The airport operated 602 flights in total, including 325 domestic and 277 international services.

The airport’s representative said that passenger traffic at Noi Bai on May 4 rose 22.6% from the regular schedule, with international passengers picking up 13.9% and domestic travelers soaring 29.4%.

Compared to the same period last year, total passenger volume climbed 25.5%, reflecting strong post-holiday travel demand.

The Tan Son Nhat International Airport in HCMC handled 729 flights yesterday, including 365 departures and 364 arrivals, according to official data.

Passenger traffic also rose sharply, with a total of 110,729 travelers, comprising 57,194 departures and 62,535 arrivals.

The newly opened Terminal T3 at Tan Son Nhat processed 51 flights, with 11,537 passengers. Its operation has helped ease congestion at the airport’s existing Terminal T1 amid the holiday travel rush.

Uong Viet Dung, general director of the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam, said the aviation sector is accelerating digital transformation in passenger processing to improve efficiency and ease congestion, particularly at major airports during peak holiday and Tet periods.
